Day 3: Electricity!

Today was another cloudless and beautiful day with blue skies....but cold! Not SO cold, just cold - like Canberra, of course (In winter).

We all caught the train to Kanda Station and walked about 300m to what we have been looking for, 'akihabara' town which is 'electric town, full of electric goodies such as cameras, computers, Playstation 3, nintendo Wii and so on....it was amazing to see so much stuff around. We went into one of these multistory level buildings, and Michael was thrilled to see a floor full of toy cars, car models and other relevant toys. He purchased himself a DIY car set - Madza RX7 for around 1,500 Yen. He will plan to build it up when he returns to Australia in a month's time.

We continued in other floors then to the next building where we found plenty of cameras, Nick and Linda saw some and considered to buy one of these DSLR's (Like Jacob owns himself the Nikon D60, where he bought it from Canada, while back). Linda's compact digital camera is experiencing problems and the case is unknown....so Nick and Linda bought a awesome Nikon D60 with 100mm Lenses - Yes, it is the same model as Jacob's. Jacob was considering to buy 300mm lenses, but unfortnately wasn't available for his model. We had lunch of sushi there.

We caught the train back to our hotel, where we rested for a bit after many kms covered by foot all morning. We walked to roppogni Station and caught the train to St Mary's International School, where Nick and his brother attended during their three year stay in Japan in the 1970's.

He met his old classmates there (see photo on left) where Nick hasn't seen for 30 odd years, they have plenty to catch up on!

We all including the old classmates of Nick's went to one of the old buildings, and met with Haku - he showed us the photos of the old teachers back in their time. Gave them the 50th anniversary plate which the school had its 50th anniversary just about 4 years ago (1954 - 2004) and Haku explained that the old buildings will be demolished to make room for the new oval and baseball courts as since we have seen the new buildings being built, the old buildings would be demolished around march 2009. St Mary's International School is undergoing refusbishments with new buildings, the new building is sitting to where the old oval was back then.

We returned back to the hotel via train and this time it was peak hour, we were supposed to catch the express train but unfortunately it was so full, we had to use the local train, which only took 6 stops to get to shibuya station. This is what it looked like when we arrived there.... (photo above in new blog)
