Absolutely beautiful day today - sunny blue skies and 12 degrees - positively balmly. We headed off to Meiji Shrine again this morning to check out Hatsumode (the first visit of the new year). There were pretty big crowds heading into the Shrine but we preferred the line of food stalls along Ometesando dori. Takoyaki, yakisoba, choc-bananas, BBQ corn cobs and sundry other indescribable things to eat. In the end it was yakisoba served by a chain smoking old man - but delicious in any event (even if it did cost $10 a plate). With Meiji Shrine too busy we walked down to Shibuya which despite being the morning after the night before was littered but reasonably quiet. A few shops were open too. Lunch at Shibuya then a long walk up Aoyama dori back to the hotel. It was a beautiful afternoon as long as you could seek shelter from the wind (which was very cold but not that strong). This arvo we have been resting at the hotel having walked a fair way today. Still a bit foot weary but nonetheless just enjoying walking around the various neighborhoods.
Have been watching an english language version of the BBC world news (it is dubbed most of the time) - is there a worse and more facile news program anywhere in the world? I would rather read "The Truth". We will head out to dinner in a while (if we can find anywhere that is open) - more pics then.
